How to Peel Garlic Quickly Without Making A Mess

As much as we love garlic here at Virtual Table, we don’t love the mess it leaves behind. Let’s be real, peeling garlic takes time and sometimes difficult to clean up - especially when they stick to your fingers!

Here’s a simple and easy method of peeling garlic while skipping the mess and the stickiness. All you will need is a jar with a lid (or any durable bottle with a secured lid).

Follow these steps:

Step 1 - Remove the top of the garlic and separate each clove from one another

Place all cloves inside the jar and dispose the root and excess skin.

Step 2 - Secure the lid and start shaking

The skin comes off faster when shaking 3-4 cloves at a time.

Step 3 - Separate the cloves that are fully peeled and continue shaking the ones that aren’t

If you added more than 3-4 cloves in the beginning, then you might need to repeat this step about 2-3 times.

Notes

  • We recommend using a mason jar with a secured lid because the glass will attract most of the stickiness of the garlic, which makes cleaning up a bit easier.

  • If you don’t have a mason jar, then any container with a secured lid will do as long as the container is durable due to the vigorous shaking.

  • It’s quicker for cloves to peel when there’s more room inside the jar so removing the cloves that are fully peeled on each shake will save you time!

  • Most cloves will come out fully peeled, others might need an additional peel that should be quick and easy.

Voila!

That was a quick and efficient way to peel garlic while making it easy to clean up afterwards. Hopefully this method saves you time that can be used more for cooking instead of cleaning up. Let us know if this method worked for you!
